Well, I'm finally here....and I've survived my first night and morning. The ceremony yesterday was lovely and I felt very welcomed by everyone. I was able to have dinner surrounded by my family and that was very nice. It was incredibly difficult to see them drive away (particularly since they took what used to be my car with them). Not gonna lie, I cried when they left and cried a bit back in my room. I know I'll be seeing friends and family still, but it's definitely different not having that instant contact if I so choose. I think the most difficult will be my roommate, though I'm guessing we will have more to talk about when we do see each other since we won't immediately know everything about each other's day.
I went up to my room and, despite an invitation to play pool in the game room, decided to unpack and get settled. I absolutely did not want to go to bed with boxes full of stuff. I'm happy to say that my room is mostly unpacked and I have only a few more things to sort through and hang on the walls. It took me quite a while to get to sleep but I slept pretty hard once I was asleep. The only exception was a text message at 2am from T-mobile letting me know that my service had been shut down....thanks T-mobile...that couldn't have waited until morning?
So far things are going well and I'm very happy. I'm meeting lots of new people (though it will be awhile before I know all the names and faces) and I'm having some great conversations. Like I said, I feel very welcome and I'm excited to see what I'll be doing in the coming weeks.
